Configuring an Xbox 360 USB Flash Drive

This is a procedure that shows you how to configure a normal pendrive as an extra storage to your xbox 360. Minimum 1Gb pen drive is required. 2 or more GB pendrive is advised as xbox uses 512 MB as it reserved storage. The Spring 2010 Dash Update for the Xbox 360 console allows you to configure a Universal Serial Bus (USB) flash drive to hold a maximum of 16GB of Xbox 360 games, gamertags, videos, and other information. You can connect two USB storage devices to your console at once.

Step 1:  Plug the USB flash drive to the Xbox 360 console. it can be plugged into the front or the rear ports.


Step 2: On your console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.


Step 3: Select Memory


Step 4: On the Storage Devices screen, select USB Storage Device.


Step 5: You have two options to configure your Xbox 360 USB Flash Drive.


Step 6: Select Configure Now Beware it will Erase all existing data and configure the entire usb device. Now Select Yes to confirm that you want to erase all data on the device that all done.
Suppose you want only a part of it to be used for XBOX use CustomizeMove the Reserved Storage slider to select how much of the storage space you want to configure for Xbox data storage. 


Step 7: Click ConfigureThe Xbox console tests your device to make sure it will work correctly with the console. If your device passes this test, you can use it as a USB memory unit.


NOTE: If your device is rated below the recommended speed, you might experience reduced game performance and quality. To cancel and try another USB storage device, select Cancel.

Finally: Your USB storage device is ready to use and is listed as a memory unit on the Storage Devices screen


Now you can use this storage to save game data. or gamer profiles etc.

Verifying if your USB flash drive meets the minimum requirements:
1. Plug the USB flash drive to the Xbox 360 console.
2. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
3. Select Memory.
4. In the list of storage devices, select the USB device to test.
5. Press the Y button on your controller.
6. The rating is listed on the Device Options screen, under Performance.
